THE BIG QUESTION

Last month, we asked:

Will plans to enable schoolgirls in one local authority to request the morning-after pill by text message impact on the number of teenage pregnancies?

You said:

A unanimous “yes”

This month,
we’re asking:

Would lowering speed limits on rural roads make them safer?

The Department of Transport is considering cutting the 60mph limit on rural roads to 50mph, in order to cut the number of deaths and serious injuries. The proposal is part of a public consultation, open until mid-July, which will shape the Government’s next road safety strategy.

THE BIG QUESTION

So, will lower speeds on rural roads result in fewer accidents? Or should there be a greater focus on driver inattention? Do you think this measure can make a difference?

ICE PICKS a round up of Project News

ICE helps SPAR secure top Industry Award

A DVD we produced for SPAR UK Ltd has scooped a Responsible Drinks Retailing Award.

ICE worked with James Hall & Company (Southport) Ltd - one SPAR UK’s six Regional Distribution Centres – in producing a training DVD which will be used by staff in SPAR’s 2,600 stores as part of its award-winning approach to reducing the number of underage alcohol sales. An accompanying trailer was also created for the use at SPAR’s National Guild Convention in Scottsdale, Arizona.

Working closely with SPAR, the Police and Lancashire Trading Standards, assisted ICE with the script who also coordinated, filmed and edited the DVD, as well as creating a brand identity and supportive design work around the SPAR concept, ‘To sell, or not to sell?’

The 40 minute DVD is designed to educate all SPAR staff in this critical area of retailing and demonstrates a range of different scenarios they may face, such as having to deal with awkward or aggressive under 18s trying to buy alcohol. It also covers different ways of dealing with underage customers attempting to purchase cigarettes and petrol.

ICE supports Liverpool Drugs Awareness Week

We’ve been working with Young Addaction to stage an open air launch event in Liverpool city centre, inviting young people in challenging situations to find out more about drugs and alcohol during school half-term.

More than 20 community, drugs and alcohol related organisations from across the region joined Young Addaction to showcase the range of confidential drugs and alcohol support available to young people and their families on Friday 29 May.

ICE supports Liverpool Drugs Awareness Week

The launch event kicked off Liverpool Drugs Awareness Week and ICE provided all the event management and PR for the week-long campaign, as well as creating the ‘know more’ brand for signage and marketing collateral such as pocket size z-cards.

The main event included 15 market stall-style information bureaus, alongside confidential advice areas. Street dancers, poets, drama groups and Everton Tigers Baseball Team also performed on an outdoor stage, in order to create a ‘buzz’ and draw young people in, whilst also being able to communicate with them about serious issues around drug and alcohol misuse.
