INSIDE ICE

Sharing creative expertise in the classroom

Around 160 pupils from Wirral Grammar School have been given hands on experience of what it’s like to work in the creative sector, thanks to our creative team.

Students from Year 8 recently took part in a half-day session with some of our design and digital media team, to get practical insight into 'real life' jobs involving the latest graphic design and interactive technologies.

This unique partnership ties in closely with Wirral Grammar's IT programme and centred around web design. The young people split into small groups for the session, which saw them developing strategies to evaluate the best and worst features of websites and explore how they communicate with target audiences.

Ian Jackson, who helps to head up ICE’s creative department, says, "Practical skills and commercial understanding are essential in today’s working world and we wanted to get students thinking about how they could translate what they learn both at home and in the classroom into a ‘real life’ working environment."

Our Operations Manager, Tina Jones, adds, "We passionately believe in broadening young people’s horizons, raising their aspirations and helping them to reach their full potential, so this was a great opportunity to help share some of our skills and knowledge. Following its popularity, we’re now looking to replicate the success of the session with other schools."

MEET THE TEAM

Introducing….
Hannah Wallington,
Senior Social Marketing Practitioner

Hannah Wallington’s extensive experience in psychology, sociology and marketing makes her ideally suited to the role of Senior Social Marketing Practitioner at ICE.

Her ability to marry together the different disciplines is invaluable when it comes to creating targeted interventions for individuals - and communities - who are ‘falling between the gaps’ in existing public service provision.

Hannah, who lives in Ashford in Kent and is part of our new team in the South East, has worked with numerous PCTs and NHS Trusts nationwide on social marketing projects, across health promotion, service realignment and research. In fact, the list includes obesity, breastfeeding, smoking, sexual health and reducing A&E attendances to name just a few.

She says, “I passionately believe in the value of insight-led interventions. It’s vital to invest time into understanding target audiences by speaking to them ‘on their own turf’, and coming up with bespoke messages and solutions which resonate with those specific groups.

“For me, it’s great to work with a team which pulls together to develop genuinely innovative interventions – often with small budgets and in complex socio-economic environments - to drive sustainable behaviour change and improve people’s quality of life.”

Hannah is also taking a key role in developing client partnerships and strategic networks across the South East region.

She adds, “ICE is continually expanding and it’s an exciting time to be supporting such a wide range of clients and stakeholders across the region - from central government departments and local authorities to NHS Trusts, Fire & Rescue Services, Crime & Disorder Reduction Partnerships, schools and academies.”
