INSIDE ICE
Sharing creative expertise in the classroom
Around 160 pupils from Wirral Grammar School have been given hands on experience of what it’s like to work in the creative sector, thanks to our creative team.
Students from Year 8 recently took part in a half-day session with some of our design and digital media team, to get practical insight into 'real life' jobs involving the latest graphic design and interactive technologies.
This unique partnership ties in closely with Wirral Grammar's IT programme and centred around web design. The young people split into small groups for the session, which saw them developing strategies to evaluate the best and worst features of websites and explore how they communicate with target audiences.
Ian Jackson, who helps to head up ICE’s creative department, says, "Practical skills and commercial understanding are essential in today’s working world and we wanted to get students thinking about how they could translate what they learn both at home and in the classroom into a ‘real life’ working environment."
Our Operations Manager, Tina Jones, adds, "We passionately believe in broadening young people’s horizons, raising their aspirations and helping them to reach their full potential, so this was a great opportunity to help share some of our skills and knowledge. Following its popularity, we’re now looking to replicate the success of the session with other schools."
