The ICE team has been shortlisted for the ‘Best Community Relations Campaign’ at the “How Do” Public Services Communications Awards.

The awards celebrate the work of communications professionals across the public sector and our nomination is for a recent event we delivered alongside Young Addaction Liverpool - in conjunction with more than 20 of their partner services, as part of a Liverpool-wide Drugs Awareness Week.

This high profile, city centre event aimed to educate and engage with young people and their families. It included 15 market stall-style information bureaus, alongside confidential advice areas. Street dancers, local youth bands and Everton Tigers Baseball Team also performed on an outdoor stage, along with Radio City, in order to create a ‘buzz’ and draw large crowds of young people.

Crucially, the event also helped to promote closer partnerships and more long-term join up between different local provider services, in order to prevent young people from falling ‘between the gaps’ in terms of accessing help and support.

The Public Services Communications Awards 2009 will be held in Manchester next month.

ICE PICKS a round up of project news

Major new contract to raise awareness of mental health issues

Our social marketers have secured a new contract to help raise awareness and reduce stigma around mental health.

Working alongside NHS Stockton-on-Tees and a wide variety of stakeholders, service providers and community partners, we’ll be developing and delivering a 12 month project to overcome the barriers people face in identifying mental health issues and accessing appropriate support services.

The initial insight phase of the project gets underway this month, and will see ICE carrying out extensive research to better understand local attitudes and behaviours around mental health. This research will then help NHS Stockton-on-Tees decide what practical steps will be taken to promote long term change, awareness and acceptance of mental health issues.

This latest contract highlights our growing presence in the North East: ICE’s clients in the region already include NHS North of Tyne, NHS Durham and Darlington, Middlesbrough PCT, Havelock Academy and North East Lincolnshire Care Trust Plus.

We also have plans to open a permanent North East regional office soon, to help us support our growing client base in the area.
