INSIDE ICE

Meeting people, making connections

The ICE team have been out and about at a number of events and exhibitions up and down the country recently – meeting with partner organisations who are driving for sustainable behaviour change.

“To truly understand and connect with our target audiences, it’s essential we explore the challenges they’re facing,” says National Business Development Manager, Paul Williams. “Key conferences such as the HSJ’s Social Marketing 2009 help to keep us at the forefront of national debate on agendas including Darzi, World Class Commissioning and Quality.

“Crucially, these events allow us to gain further insight into the individuals and communities we’re reaching and to explore fresh ideas with like-minded people. They also help to keep us at the cutting edge of agendas and good practice around social change.

“For instance, a recent Skin Cancer Prevention Event spearheaded by the UK’s cancer networks allowed us to talk directly with research charities, primary care trusts and GPs about the innovative work we’re currently doing with Merseyside and Cheshire Cancer Network. It was also a great opportunity to share our learning and showcase the interactive technologies we’re using to engage with 11-16 years olds around sun exposure and sunbed use.

Paul concludes, “Ultimately, I see the shared insight and learning we develop through these events as crucial to supporting our client partnerships, as it helps maximise resources and stretch clients’ budgets further!”

MEET THE TEAM

Introducing….
Heather Sewell,
PR Executive

As a radio journalist, Heather interviewed politicians such as John Prescott and Charles Kennedy and covered major news stories firsthand, including the country’s worst ever outbreak of Legionnaires disease. She also headed up a news team which was shortlisted for the commercial radio industry’s News Team of the Year.

Since then, she has worked as a media and communications specialist with the Merseyside-based tourism and investment body The Mersey Partnership - and today, she is an integral part of ICE’s PR team.

Heather, who lives in the Sefton Park area of Liverpool, has been working with ICE since April 2008 and specialises in copywriting and internal communications. As ICE’s primary proofreader, she also takes a key role in ensuring that all the materials we produce are consistently accurate and of the highest standards.

What’s more, she still gets to put her broadcasting skills to good use by working closely with ICE’s multimedia specialists on various client projects – interviewing a broad spectrum from primary school children to well-known figures like comedian Ken Dodd!

Outside of the office, another claim to fame is that Heather recently became one of the very first people in the UK to benefit from a revolutionary new keyhole approach to heart valve replacement.

She says, “This technique involved implanting a new pulmonary valve inside a wire mesh, which was then passed through an artery at the top of my leg. It was a very delicate procedure and because it’s such a new approach, it was also filmed so it can be shown to other clinicians at a national conference in November.”
